THE Radio that started it all.

1983 Cobra 148 GTL. This is the one that started it all for me. This was in my Dads truck when he was driving and got me interested in radio all those years ago. I also have the 2 pill amp as well. What radio got you started in the hobby?

    Sears Walkie Talkie Base

When I was about 14, my mother bought me one of these for my birthday or Christmas. It got me hooked, but I could not afford a real CB radio until about 7 years later. I did have many of hours of listening pleasure. All them big strappers talkin' skip.

My first radio was a Cobra 19 from Walmart with a K-40 lip mount in the Hood of my Toyota. Stepped up to a modded Philly Cobra 29 and a 102" whip mounted on the toolbox and it just got bigger from there. Now I am running a Philly 148 in the truck.

Hahaha! We must be about the same age....That was my first CB also! From the 1968 Sears Wishbook page 545...ONLY YEAR that radio was sold! The next year Sears had a base station for sale, but it looked a whole lot different.

First "real cb" (if you could call it that) was a 5 channel mobile radio that had push buttons to select the channel...Only came with two crystals in it, channel 9 and 19, then you had to buy the crystals for the other 3 channels, but they could be whatever channels you wanted 1 thew 23...Think I only manage to get 2 more as the local radio shack was always out of the local station crystals...(this was around 1973 or 74.)

First 23 channel radio was a pace...basic 2 knobs, on/off and squelch...think it had a cb/pa switch, but that was about it.

I was a JC Penney loyal customer. My first real radio was a 6236 Pinto 23 channel base/mobile. I had a 6204 40 channel mobile in my pickup. Then I bought a 6241 and a 2 element quad.
I've owned many JC Penney radios over the years and always loved them. They looked and worked good.

That is a cool looking radio Bear!

My first base was a Yeasu FT-101EE. Still have it and a 101EX but neither of them are working as if now. Gotta send them off and get them up and running. I also have a Cobra 2000 gtl with dual speakers.
