More people should keep going and get the extra. The general portion on the HF bands can be crowded, especially 75 at night. I've made some good DX contacts in the advanced/extra portion of the band.

Notice the drop in the noise floor right where the general portion ends. It's more dramatic on a weekend.

    Thanks everyone.
I took both of the test, Technician and General, at the same time and got lucky. I passed both.
I'll be looking at the Extra, too. My Elmer wants me to get acquainted with being a ham for a little while before making the next level. So, give me a day or two.

Trying to get something decent in the air first. Threw up a fan dipole, but it needs fine tuning and appears to have a lot of tx issues with loss. Also have up a homebrew 5/8 2m temporarily as it looks rickety after I got careless with it and some tree limbs. I've made a few contacts, but listening mostly. Nets are most prevalent it seems. Some bands are quiet like they are a secret no one knows about.
    Still excited.
Catch ya'll on the air soon, I hope.
