    Any Suggestions

Hey, folks, I am (within the next month) going to be attempting to my first base setup in my home. Currently I have a Galaxy 95T mobile that I plan to use until I can find a working Cobra 2000 in decent condition. I am curious as to what type of power supply do you think would be best for the Galaxy? Right now it is going to be radio only, but I am hoping to add a tube amp later on. Also, any suggestions on tube amps that are well built are welcome. I am buying a Antron A99 with ground plane kit to use. I live in eastern Kentucky on a mountain at about 1,500 elevation.

I live too far away to even see if nomad in Louisville is open still. He did great work on a Cobra 200 GTL DX I had, I would still have it if it hadn't been stolen.

Any information, suggestions or ideas are welcome.

As for a power supply, just see what the Galaxy pulls and get a power supply big enough to handle the radio and have a little left over...Tube Amp's should have a built in power supply...For as tube amps go, the ones that use the sweep tubes, (which is what most of the older CB tube amps use) tubes are getting harder to find, and when you do find NOS ones they sell at a premium price.

I have had very good luck with Samlex switching power supplies. Astron p/s are good too but I would save my money and buy the Samlex.

For power supplies your best bet is with the Mega Watt supplies:

    http://www.12voltpowersupplies.us/

A lot of the Ham guys are using them with good results, U.S. made with good filtering, can't beat the price.

I have a samlex on my HF rigs. Whatever you do get at least a 30 amp for the 95t. A 20 amp will run it on AM but fall on its face for SSB. Ive been down that road.
